These texts are excellent vehicles to achieve the goal of this course: learning about the living being in the context of the larger whole. Wile’s book gives the standard biological information from a Christian viewpoint, and Behe’s book places the consideration in a larger whole. The student is encouraged to see the plan and design in nature. This prepares him to do the fifth way of St. Thomas. Humani Generis provides an opportunity for the student to learn about the teaching of the Church on the origin of life. It also helps him be aware that the Church teaches on such matters.
