This is a framework text. We use only a couple of chapters in 6th Grade, where the emphasis is not on the text, but on the supplementary books about Egypt. They are all full of interesting information which the student analyzes, categorizes and collates to produce two papers during the year. In 7th & 8th Grade this text is used throughout the year; the questions at the end of the chapters are excellent writing exercises when used as suggested in the syllabus. They encourage paragraph development.
